Osteopathic Treatment
The initial consultation may last up to an hour and 15 minutes, where a detailed case history will be taken. You will be asked about your existing symptoms as well as any previous history of pain. You will also be asked about your past medical history, including any accidents, operations or illnesses. Please bring any copies of medical reports you have and information on any medication you are taking.
Examination
Examination will involve assessing posture, testing mobility in the spine and peripheral joints, and running through any other necessary tests. You will be asked to undress down to your underwear, please fell free to bring a pair of light weight shorts with you to wear. If you feel uncomfortable about this please do let me know and I can provide a towel or blanket to cover you during treatment.
Treatment
Treatment is hands on and involves use of a wide range of techniques to improve the movement of the spine and to reduce muscle tension. The treatment I give may include soft-tissue work, stretching, articulation–that is movements of individual joints, or gentle unwinding and cranial work. I have also completed training in vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, and so may be able to help you if you suffer with dizziness.
I also use kinesiology taping, please take a look at Rocktape.net for further information.
Diagnosis
After examination and treatment I will discuss what I think is causing your pain and how treatment may be able to help you. Advice will be given on posture and any exercises you can do to help yourself.
You may require several treatments, however if treatment is not appropriate I will refer you to your GP or another specialist for further tests.
